According to the video interview with Dr. Stefan Arsenkov, a specialist in abdominal surgery, they create 3D models of patients’ internal organs before surgeries based on CT scans and MRI images.
These 3D models allow them to visualize the individual anatomy of each patient and display the structures they will encounter during the surgery. Dr. Arsenkov highlights that using such models reduces the duration of surgeries by 20-30%.
Creating the models takes 2-3 days and does not delay the surgery time. This technology had not been previously used in Macedonia, while globally research on the application of 3D printing in surgery has been published over the last 20 years.
